The most important current issues that concern the Society
- The greatest threat comes from the South East Plan, and the Reigate Society has supported the Borough of Reigate & Banstead in objecting strongly to the target put forward for new housing. The Panel Report suggests that 9,240 new homes are required in the borough for the 2006-2026 period. This is an increase of nearly 20%, contrasting with an average increase for the South East of 10%. The Panel also suggested that the boundary of the Green Belt should be reviewed as necessary in the Redhill/Reigate area, and this will also be resisted strongly by the Society.
- The Society is involved with the Redhill Area Action Plan, and as a stakeholder the Society responded to the Redhill Town Centre Area Action Plan.
- The impact of the possible sale of Gatwick Airport, either as a whole or in parts, and also political pressure for a second runway will be monitored by the Society.
