Surrey Mirror Article on February's Talk

Title Document Type Document Date
The Reigate Society’s recent Open Meeting held on Monday 25th February at St Mary’s Church Centre was attended by over 100 local people. The topic for the evening’s talk was 8 – 10 Bell Street – an iconic landmark of Reigate. Sarah Sullivan, historic building and conservation specialist, gave a most interesting and enlightening presentation on the history of these buildings that we know as the Knights building and its surroundings. We were given great insight into the many challenges faced by ancient buildings and the wealth of history hidden within them which makes their preservation and adaptation so important. Through the painstaking work of architects, surveyors, builders and others such as Sarah the buildings have been preserved and adapted for a new future incorporating retail shops and accommodation whilst maintaining the building’s historic integrity. The next Open Meeting of the Society is on Monday March 25th 2019 at 8p.m. in the Colman Redland Centre. The topic will be ‘ Early Ballooning in Surrey’ and our speaker is Sean Hawkins, well known local historian and raconteur. The meeting is free and open to all. We continue to encourage new members to the Society and particularly welcome those interested in leadership of the Society. We are actively seeking volunteers for the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary. For information please contact us through the website: www.reigatesociety.org.uk N/A 08/03/2019
